Blythe Horton
1956-12-18 2014-09-25Blythe Imel Horton passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014. She was born on December 18, 1956, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Patsy Carney Imel and John "Mickey" Imel. Her childhood years were spent in Tulsa, where she made so many lifetime friendships, and graduated from Tulsa Memorial High School. She attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, following in the footsteps of her mother and both grandmothers. Upon graduation she went to work for Liberty National Bank in Oklahoma City, where she started her career in institutional banking. This career took her to Dallas to work for First Boston. It was in Dallas that she met and married Gary Horton in 1993. Although they were later divorced, they had two wonderful children, Katy Ann Horton and Gary Horton, Jr., whom Blythe adored. Blythe was a successful institutional banker in Dallas for several years, but then chose to retire so that she could dedicate her time, energy and love to her children. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her as an energetic, outgoing person that loved more than anything to be surrounded by family and friends.
Blythe was preceded in death by her mother. She is survived by: her father, Mickey Imel; her children, Katy Horton and Gary Horton, of Dallas; her sisters, Katy Hebb and husband Jim, of Arlington, VA, Dixie Coffey and husband Kevin, of Oklahoma City, and Sally Story and husband David Story, of Edmond; her nieces and nephews, Nick, Maddie and Annie Coffey, and Abby and Kyle Story; cousins, Susan Swab and husband Steve, Erin Metz and husband Mike, and Merilyn Carney.
A celebration of her life with family and friends will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army. Please visit www.sparkman-hillcrest.com
I just learned today about Blythe's passing. It's hard to imagine such a bright, beautiful person is gone. I'm so sad to learn about her passing, and I know that many will miss her smile and gentle demeanor.
