Dub Cross (Norman C. Cross, III) passed away suddenly on January 17, 2013 at the age of 56. A fitting tribute to Dub cannot be written by a single person or contained on a single page. There were so many facets to Dub’s life and so many people that counted him as a friend that the whole story could only be told with the culmination of stories by literally hundreds of friends and family members. Throughout his life Dub was one of kind! He earned an Engineering degree from OSU while spending most of his years in Stillwater establishing the beginnings of the Red Dirt music phenomenon with his band The Cimarron Swingsters . Dub worked as a construction engineer with Manhattan Construction until the early 1990s when he left the corporate world to begin a life that was fully his own – on his own terms, at his own pace and in his own way. Dub started Black Diamond Trading Company to buy, trade, and repair motorcycles. There was no charge for creating and telling stories at Black Diamond. Dub was a singer and songwriter, newspaper columnist, Ham radio operator, gardener, chef extraordinaire, and Facebook personality with friends across the globe. Dub was as big as the life he lived. He is survived by his wife Judy Walker, Tulsa sisters Kitty Baehler and Sally Reynolds, Sally’s husband Lou Reynolds and their children Boone and Abbey. He was preceded in death by his first wife Cheryl, nephew Cole Baehler and parents Wynema and Norman C. Cross, Jr. A celebration of Dub’s life is planned for April 6, 2013 in Strang, Oklahoma.
